Set top box DVD don't make a noise because they're usually 1x speed, if you
could force the PCs DVD player to play at 1x it would be quiet too. I'm pretty
sure spindle speed is a HW thing though.... is there a hook in the Linux
ATAPI/SCSI drivers to control spindle speed? I've had a look on LDP/Google and
it turns up nothing...
