Probably the best option would be to find some specialised external
CD-ROM case and run ribbon cable to the actual PC which you stick in a
cupboard or behind the TV cabinet.

Another issue about these setups is the noise of the DVD drive.  Are
there any PC DVD drives available that don't sound like you're sitting
at the end of the runway at Heathrow?  Obviously it's possible since
real DVD players don't do this.
