not really an option for everyone.  besides, then i have to wade thru
lots of other stuff that i'm probably not that interested in..

IIRC, sourceforge will email you each time projects that your interested
in release new files.  Not perfect, but a start.

What we need, is some kinda system where you can register for info about
a package and be notified by a short easy to parse email when some
criterion which you've specified has changed. All we need is the buyin
of enough people to give updates...
