Webmail usually sucks for reading mailing lists.

Especially high-traffic ones.
An interesting idea might be a read-only IMAP server to host mailing lists -
you get given a username/password and can read messages and mark them as
read. Old threads could be moved periodically into a seperate mailbox.
Cyrus at least can do this. I'm not so sure about other IMAP solutions.
