Every week in the trade press (from Computer Weekly thru Network News, etc.)
there always seems to be a major story about job cuts - whether it's HP
asking people to take unpaid leave, component manufacturers shutting down
fabs, even consultancies (Ernst & Young?).. 

Plus, wasn't ApacheCon called off recently (possibly in the states)?

Hmmm.. economics :(
