[Gllug] Demon dial-up problems

Has anyone been able to use gnome-ppp with Demon's dial-up?

I can dial up and connect to uklinux no problem, but with Demon it dials
up and enters the username (and password I think, although gnome-ppp
doesn't show it) but it never brings up ppp0 (I check using ifconfig or
netstat -i) and I get a "ppp daemon died unexpectedly" a few seconds
later.
The script is a simple recieve "ogin:", send username, receive
"assword:", send password, which works OK with uklinux.

I've got a BT flat rate internet number which is why I want to use
Demon's dial-up.

I'm using Mandrake 8.0.
Previously I was using the wvdial program with Red Hat 6.0 with Demon
and this worked fine. Perhaps I'll try using this again.
I've seen a few Usenet posts about gnome-ppp/Demon problems but no
answers.

In the "Mandrake Control Centre" there's an Internet "wizard" which
*does* connect to Demon OK but as this is buried in several dialogs it
isn't ideal. This seems to use /etc/ppp/pap-secrets but I'm don't think
gnome-ppp does.
