Non more evil than pull plug out, although perhaps the DataDocktorn [El Reg
:))] would probably have some good ideas, perhaps involving a 3-phase power
supply and a spark plug.

Given it's purely an OS thing, I imagine it does exactly what it says on the
tin: i.e., schedules dirty blocks for inclusion on the elevator - I don't
believe it invokes a 'hdparm -t' or something, so I wouldn't assume that
having sync'd guarantees your data is on disk in any event, virtual machine
or no.
