[Gllug] duel booting

Hi, 
	I have an 18Gb drive which can be parted any which way ( currently 2 parts 
under the 1024 cyl limit BUT LINUX refuses to boot. The so called rescue / 
boot disk created by mandrake 8 does not work either.
 Any one have a fool proof way of duel booting a large Hard disk?
