At the Geek Meet on Saturday the topic of
Word format to text translation came up.

For the life of me I couldn't remember the
utility I use for that.

It is  catdoc  http://www.ice.ru/~vitus/catdoc/
Basically feed it a Word doscument and it outputs
text to standard out.

I also see on that page xls2csv, which deals with
Excel spreadsheets.

So anyone (such as Dean, hint hint) who is thinking 
of making tools to automate handling of Word docs
should at least try this out.
