as an aside, when i upgraded from 3 -> 4, it didnt quite work properly,
and i ended up with a duff database, and had to do an --initdb and reload
all packages to get the database and dependenices back.  but then again, i
was using cooker, so i'm sure the official pkgs are much more reliable.
as a precautionary note, you might want to back up the binaries and data
first.  

# cd /; tar -cvvf /tmp/bak.tar `rpm -q -l rpm`
# tar -cvvf /tmp/dat.tar /var/lib/rpm
