I wonder about tapping an ADSL line???
ADSL works by putting in filters which allow a normal 
voice call to take place alongside the ADSL data 
which is sent at higher frequencies.

I would guess that installing a tap on the line would
alter impedances, and so disturb this filtering.
I might be wrong though - an inductive tap, ie.
coils wound round the phone line might work.
