Some more information, in case anyone has an idea.

With the following 3 being my prime suspects.

glibc-devel-2.2.4-19.rpm
pam-devel-0.75-16.rpm
pam-0.75-16.rpm

ls -lrtc output ..

Do these pam configs look ok?

other has

#%PAM-1.0

account required /lib/security/pam_deny.so
password required /lib/security/pam_deny.so
session required /lib/security/pam_deny.so

system-auth has
#%PAM-1.0

auth required /lib/security/pam_env.so
auth sufficient /lib/security/pam_unix.so likeauth nullok
auth required /lib/security/pam_deny.so

password required /lib/security/pam_cracklib.so retry=3 type=
password sufficient /lib/security/pam_unix.so nullok use_authtok md5 shadow

More importantly this is the X output.

It says the module does not exists even though modules.conf has not
changed.

When reporting a problem related to a server crash, please send
the full server output, not just the last messages.
This can be found in the log file "/var/log/XFree86.0.log".
Please report problems to xfree86 at xfree86.org.

XIO: fatal IO error 104 (Connection reset by peer) on X server ":0.0"

I'm a little scared of randomly replacing my glibc and pam rpm's to see
what happens.

Darren
