Did you check the md5 sum for the iso image before you burnt it?

You can copy all the RPMS to a partition on the hard drive and boot from the
CD or a floppy.

I think everyone was excited about the new release, hence the chatter. It
doesn't necessarily reflect usage.

To start off the list
I use Mandrake 8.1 on my desktop, Mandrake 8.0 on our
file/print/email/proxy/quake/mp3 server (haven't got around to upgrading - if
it aint broke don't fix it) an OpenBSD firewall a small OpenBSD
file/proxy/mail server at one of our shops (it was an experiment that worked
too well) and an old SCO OpenServer machine running a proprietary database.
