[Gllug] VMware question

A question for VMware experts out there.

Is there any way to configure (say) a laptop so that when a user logs in,
either text-mode or a graphical login,
then a VMware session is automatically started?
Even better, also being able to lock a desktop down so that only VMware
could be started?

The application I have in mind is a database server running in the field,
on a Linux laptop, but with the users having a Windows interface.
