This is a RedHat'ism for handling nics with PCMCIA.  

The network comes up 10 runlevels 2345 where as PCMCIA comes up at 45 on
the same runlevels.

Don't worry about the boot error, this is fine.  It can be fixed, or you
can live with it.  

You'll need to setup the network settings for eth0, you can do this
manually, use linuxconf or /usr/sbin/netconfig which sets up the config
files under /etc/sysconfig/network and /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts.

OK sounds as if your nic is being detected (check using lsmod and dmesg)
.  Set up the IP and you should be away.
