Gaia is the word as used by Prof. Lovelock (and the many loonies who have 
massively misinterpreted his ideas).  But he just anglicised "Gaea" (as 
in Pangaea) which confuses many anachronistic  but inadequately educated 
pedants by not being pronounced "gee-ya" but "guy-ya", cause it's Greek 
(so those who use Pangea as an alternative spelling are perpetrating a 
gross spelling crime but it's too late and nobody has an education any more).
