[Gllug] ADSL Connection

Hi All,

I will be moving soon and when I get settled, I would like to have a
high speed internet connection. I was thinking of ADSL self install
from Plusnet.

I recall that someone recommended this once, as a good solution offering
a static IP address.

Just wanted to check:
Would I be able to access my home server using this connection so I
could access my emails (using IMAP)?
Could I access my files on my home server?

What security would I need to put in place?

I was thinking of the ADSL Home Self Install Service
http://www.plusnet.co.uk/info2/residential/res_broadband_adslhome_selfinstall.html
using a non-usb (i.e. Ethernet port) DSL modem instead.

I currently use an old Gateway Qube as my home server, which has
firewall facilities (which I have not as yet set up). I have enabled
IMAP on this server, and use this for my email.

The Qube is in turn connected to a Linksys Router/Firewall (the firewall
isn't enabled on this either, but I will when I move), and then
currently to a cable modem, but in the future to a DSL Modem if the ADSL
is suitable.

Any help will be appreciated, but I will not be able to set up until I
move obviously, but hopefully within a month or so.

Regards,

Ian
