Regarding the Sony clock-radio. Perhaps I should add a bit more detail 
to clear a few things up. This was purchased a few months ago, and yes 
Alain, I did get cash refund - by visiting and queueing up in an Argos 
store, which kind of defeated the object.

Thanks for that Colin, it made me smile. FWIW the Catalogue number was 
512/3614 (Sony ICFC 153L digital clock and digital radio tuner, not just 
digital clock).
Re /bin/date
Personally I look at my watch.
The reason for the purchase was that the clock radio we have doesn't 
pick up Capital FM whereas the our portable CD/Radio(digital 
tuner)/Cassette player does. Anyone who has had the dubious pleasure of 
waking up listening to Martin Day on Essex Radio will realize why this 
might be desirable. Getting something online from Argos maybe more 
trouble than it's worth, but persuading my wife to have a computer in 
the bedroom - now there's a challenge!
