The firewall isn't shutting down the connection, it simply doesn't know your 
external IP address because you're getting it from DHCP. Look in 
/etc/sysconfig/SuSEfirewall2 and you'll find:

# if you use dhclient to get an ip address you have to set this to "yes" !
FW_SERVICE_DHCLIENT="no"

Set it to "yes":

FW_SERVICE_DHCLIENT="yes"

save the file and run /sbin/SuSEconfig

that should sort it out (but you might need to restart the firewall for it to 
take effect)
