Why go for just a modem?  I'd highly recommend a router, and in particular ,
anything made by Draytek.  See http://www.draytek.co.uk for their complete
range.  They're cheap and have a really good feature set for the price.  If
you need support from them, they're probably the best company I've ever
dealt with.

As for ADSL providers, it seems that Nildram are one of the better providers
out there (and one I will be switching to from One.Tel who are absolutely
awful).
