I find that LILO is most useful for booting into single user mode and
changing a root p/w.
Likewise booting Solaris on CD (as if you are going to install), then fire
up a console window, mount the root part and start editing passwd/shadow
files.
I guess the moral of the story is making sure that important machines have
good physical security as well as network security.
