Something more along the lines of the actor's clubs in Soho?
e.g. the Groucho Club.
Each founder member buys shares in it, and pays a (reasonable)
annual membership.
Licensing laws allow for the running of member's social clubs.

We've tossed these ideas around before - the main obstacle 
I think is finding suitable central(ish) London premises.

How about though by starting off by finding a bar willing to
stage a monthly or weekly club night?
