If you throw away everything you already know, you're almost certain to
make the same mistakes again, as well as probably coming up with a few
new ones. In addition, you've got to remember that your design
ultimately has to work with people milling around in it...

One of the best courses I did at Uni looked at attempts to envisage and
build Utopias (top course - it's a grand moment when a history student
gets told to go away and read some science fiction... ;-). Every real
life attempt to build a perfect society (and there have been hundreds of
them) has foundered to some extent and that was largely, I believe, down
to the fact that they only had people to populate them....

OTOH, that's a thought I'd concur with absolutely.... very poetically
expressed ;-)
