Reasons for your own compile:
	The obvious - Hacking the code yourself
	Want to install it in a non-standard place
	No binary packages for your arch.
	No binaries for your distrib.

I'm a compiling person, I like to compile stuff up myself, I rarely
./configure without some kinda widgit, or switches, removing unneeded
features, etc....

Binaries are over-rated :)
