[Gllug] ADSL Hacking.

Ok, after time, and effort - the stingray/showerhead sucks.

I also have one of BT's "anonymous black boxes" for Ethernet based ADSL.
It's totally unconfigurable from anything, all locked up and tight as a
drum. (This is on Openworld BTW, who are planning to announce a "wires
only" service themselves soon, I was told last night by one of their
techies)

Last night I "hacked it" all open and set it up nicely, even with
Dynamic IP, I now have web-servers at home that the public can see
(http://virtuallife.homelinux.net for example) - and it's still all nice
and secure with a BLOODY good firewall, all on the box....

I will, when free time permits, (to quote a fellow GLLUG member,
todolist ending with "Fly to moon in spacerocket") I'll do a HOWTO, but
if anyone wants to do this, I'll be happy to provide pointers,
cable-pinouts, software, config files, Router Kernel upgrades and
firewall config's :) Maybe even come over hang out at your place while
we do it, bring over my serial cable (which appears to be different to a
CISCO console cable - my CISCO one never worked)

	-Cheers, Darran

the way people work is hardcoded in our DNA. Nobody "really trusts"
hundreds of people. --Linus Torvalds, lkml, 20020129
