Oh, they happily run Linux, but only out of ROM - so upgrading kernels,
etc would be an arse.... but other than that.... they have been proven
to work. And the spec on all the chips, AFAIK is open.

I picked up my Bush STB yesterday (or rather had a friend do it for me
:) ) - I do plan to hack on it :)
