[Gllug] X weirdness

Yes, it's weird X behaviour time again. Two things, neither of which I
have a clue about:

1. kdm login onto a local machine (thoth) restarts the login process
   every couple of seconds. You can login, but you have to type fast.

2. A second machine (shadrach) is configured as an Xserver for
   thoth. Works fine, except every so often X pauses for a couple of
   seconds, losing the screen and any active keypresses.

Any ideas?
