[Gllug] Can I do this with DNS

Well, MX records should never point to CNAMEs and many people prefer not
to use CNAMES at all, because of the problems they can cause.  You can
always just use additional A records instead.

If this DNS server is only going to be serving a specific set of boxes
and they use it exclusively then you can put what you like in there as
they'll never see a conflict.  But you haven't really given any
description of the way this is all organised.
