We use kermit from washington university here. It compiles fine on SGI 
and Linux which is important to us. We use it for everything from 
configuring switches/firewalls to logging into the PROM on big SGI 
boxes. When we get a new piece of kit we generally have to alter all 
the parameters on the link one-by-one until it works. If you already 
know those settings then it is a piece of cake.

I got up early this morning and consequently that paragraph may have 
made very little sense.
