[Gllug] pcmcia subsystem as modules, nic driver built in

I have a pcmcia-nic for which the driver is built into the kernel, since
the module would not load. The pcmcia subsystem is built as modules.
I've got a feeling this is not quite the "Right Thing To Do(R)". 

Should I just compile in the subsystem as well, or should I try to find
parameters that will load the module?

Oh yeah, it is a 2.4.18 kernel.
