Because it's easier to sell to the general public, who are unaware
of things like aspect ratios and even struggle with resolutions like
1600x1200. All a Dixons salesdroid needs to know is that 3.2M pixels
is a better camera than 2.1M pixels. Not always true, of course, but
for the majority of cameras sold on the high street, it's close enough.
