[Gllug] New linux user - modem problem

WinModem?

I suspect this is the clue - controllerless. I'd put money on it being a
WinModem. Check out http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/ to see if there is
any help there.... LinModems are a complete bugger, IME, and nasty
horrible things :)
