I find the following helps if you get a rude response to a post:

1) Imagine the person posting the offending email saying the words aloud
in a funny squeaky voice.
2) Remember that someone who ridicules others for "stupid" posts is
saying more about their own insecurities than others' lack of knowledge,
and is therefore to be pitied rather than feared.
3) It is easy to misinterpret irony, dry humour, etc. as rudeness in
emails.

Anyway, I'd like to see more newbie-type questions on the list so I get
the satisfaction of knowing the answers :)
