Hi,
Stupid question did any one mail IBM direct to see what they say? I have found them very helpful in the past.

I get exactly the same thing. I added one of these drives to my machine
a week or so ago, and since then it's been making the whine-squeak noise
every few minutes. Other than that, it seems to be working fine. From
/proc/scis/scsi:
Host: scsi1 Channel: 00 Id: 06 Lun: 00
Vendor: IBM Model: IC35L018UWD210-0 Rev: S5BS
Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 03
Someone on the LKML speculated that it was the drive performing
thermal reclaibration, but I don't know whether that's genuinely
the cause or not.
