The Simplified Spelling Society has been going in London since 1908.
One of their main aims is that by reforming the English language we may as a
country be able to reduce the estimated seven million illiterate adults.
This would in turn raise the literacy level of the country as a whole.
It would also mean some teachers would not be guilty of incorrect spelling in
front of the class, and compared to Italy, may help reduce dyslexia.
In refoming the English language the society hopes to ease foreign language
students.
Of course - they are WRONG!
In German we have the a HochDeutsch to give a standard written German,
whereas, English has always prided itself on the ability to evolve and steal
from other cultures. Is it right that we do so?
Should I just admit defeat and resign myself to using color, favorite and
anything ending with -zie.
Did Intel not try to make 2+2 not equal to 4?
Regards
John
