Hi

I'm trying to get my Seagate Travan drive running on my Debian 3 machine.

I can see it:
rama:root # dmesg | grep -i seagate
hdc: Seagate STT20000A, ATAPI TAPE drive

But I can't use it, my trials follow, if anyone can think of anything I'd be
grateful.

Have tried:
man MAKEDEV
===8<===
ftape  Floppy  driver  tapes  (QIC-117).
the devices rftx (rewinding) and nrftx (non-rewinding) are created. For
compatability, devices ftape and nftape are symlinks to rft0 and
nrft0 respectively.
===8<===

Ran that, it made a load of dev devices ,The devices are:
/dev/ftape   /dev/nqft3     /dev/nzqft0  /dev/qft1     /dev/rawqft2
/dev/zqft3
/dev/nftape  /dev/nrawqft0  /dev/nzqft1  /dev/qft2     /dev/rawqft3
/dev/nqft0   /dev/nrawqft1  /dev/nzqft2  /dev/qft3     /dev/zqft0
/dev/nqft1   /dev/nrawqft2  /dev/nzqft3  /dev/rawqft0  /dev/zqft1
/dev/nqft2   /dev/nrawqft3  /dev/qft0    /dev/rawqft1  /dev/zqft2

rama:root # for device in `ls -ald /dev/*ft* | awk {'print $10'}`; do mt
$device status; done
Gives "mt: invalid tape operation" for each one

Now I've tried:
http://www.seagate.com/support/kb/tape/ref/unix_linux_commands.html
===8<===
Typical tape device names Rewinding Non-rewinding
ATAPI(IDE) /dev/ht# /dev/nht#
===8<===

These don't exist either

Erm, help

thanks
