except that even phone calls on mobile networks are not that reliable..

if the network is busy, the phone is out of range ...

I have often recieved voicemail several hours after it was left - after 
being in a quiet room with my mobile and good reception.

Do you get notified of missed calls if your phone never gat the 
connection at all ?

to be fair it has happened more frequently near after work pubs on a 
friday night when everyone tries to talk to thier mates at the same time

the anti-war march was particularly succesfull at clogging the networks

what with people trying to meet up, find out if thier mum had seen it on 
the news yet etc.
