Thanks for the most interesting input on Pagers etc

Bearing in mind that SMS messages can take ages and Pagers can be out of range,
I wonder whether a viable solution would not be, if one has a cheapo modem on
the system, to simply initiate a 'uucp' session or similar to a phantom system
which just happens to have a phone number of one's own mobile phone.  Ok, when
your mobile phone rings and you see the caller is the 'server modem' or whatever
you don't get any kond of a meaningful message, but at least you know there is
a probkem right away !!
