There lies the root of the problem. We all need to drink beer (or do I mean 'eat' ?),
so we can't afford to give a large %age of our time away - no matter how worthy
the charity.

What we can do is to charge them a reasonable daily rate, recommend/install solutions
that provide value for money, and sell them the hardware without huge markup[*]

The other thing is to be honest by putting in systems that can be maintained by
others - too many that I have seen are all but impossible for others to pick up.

[*] I always sell them the h/ware at the price that I buy it, but charge for my time
taken to specify/source/... it. It also means that I don't have a liability in the
case of h/ware failure - I repair at cost & charge my time as per normal.
