For audio streams I'd have a look at vsound, (and trplayer if you'd
like to script the capture of programs - eg cron the recording of
programs on Radio7)

Sorry about the long line:

vsound -t -s trplayer -n -q -t 30:00 http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbc7/realplayer/dsatg2.ram | sox -t au - -t wav -r 44100 - | oggenc --quiet -o outputfile.ogg -

This will record radio7 for 30minutes.  trplayer can be downloaded as
a debian package from the web but it will require that Realplayer8 is
also installed.
