Whilst we're on the subject, for interest, I ran a very quick test on my
system.

Debian Woody (2.4.18-bf2.4 - not patched with the via ide driver for my m/b!)
Athlon XP 2100+ (1.7ish Ghz)
256Meg RAM

/dev/hda:
 multcount    =  0 (off)
 I/O support  =  1 (32-bit)
 unmaskirq    =  1 (on)
 using_dma    =  0 (off)	// Needs kernel patch
 keepsettings =  0 (off)
 nowerr       =  0 (off)
 readonly     =  0 (off)
 readahead    =  8 (on)
 geometry     = 2482/255/63, sectors = 39876480, start = 0
 busstate     =  1 (on)

Anyway, if anybody's still interested it was 5 seconds to the initial logo
then a further 18 until Ooo Writer (1.0.2-2 Debian Packages) is usable.

Ash.
