A litte bit more info for people:
/var/log/messages reports:

Aug 31 20:20:46 localhost kernel: hub.c: USB new device connect on
bus1/1, assigned device number 3
Aug 31 20:20:47 localhost kernel: usb.c: USB device 3 (vend/prod
0x482/0x103) is not claimed by any active driver.
Aug 31 20:20:50 localhost /etc/hotplug/usb.agent: Setup usb-storage for
USB product 482/103/100
Aug 31 20:20:50 localhost kernel: Initializing USB Mass Storage driver...
Aug 31 20:20:50 localhost kernel: usb.c: registered new driver usb-storage
Aug 31 20:20:50 localhost kernel: scsi1 : SCSI emulation for USB Mass
Storage devices
Aug 31 20:20:50 localhost kernel: USB Mass Storage support registered.

Each time I power off the camera & power it back on again the device
number increments:
Aug 31 20:33:51 localhost kernel: usb.c: USB disconnect on device 3
Aug 31 20:35:56 localhost kernel: hub.c: USB new device connect on
bus1/1, assigned device number 4
Aug 31 20:36:29 localhost kernel: usb.c: USB disconnect on device 4
Aug 31 20:36:38 localhost kernel: hub.c: USB new device connect on
bus1/1, assigned device number 5

So it all looks like its regeristing ok.

My /etc/fstab entry reads
/dev/sde1 /mnt/film vfat noauto,user 0 0

and I'm getting:
mount: /dev/sde1 is not a valid block device

Hmmm.

Cheers,
Peter
