NEVER EVER DO "xhost +" UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES WHATSOEVER.

[Before someone says "unconnected machine" - it's a bad habit and even
if you are stuck with xhost, which you never are, it doesn't do
anything useful that "xhost + localhost" doesn't.]
