[Gllug] bored programmer needs help

Hello Everyone

I am a little bored, consequently for the last 5 days or so I've been teaching
myself C, so far ive made a nice little shared lib for accessing conf files and
played a little.

Im looking for 2 things really,

1. is there any way in perl i can call functions that are in a C library somwhere? (like native methods in java) without all the bother of re-compiling perl etc.

2. anyone reccomend a C book to use while learning.
