There is a "pure Perl" DBD module for MySQL; or you can go the more 
"conventional" route and download and install the headers and libs for a 
MySQL client install. I recall (but haven't checked) that there is a 
package in most distros specifically for this purpose.

I'd go the "pure Perl" option because I'm lazy like that.
