[Gllug] Any PPP gurus?

i am seeking to upgrade my Red hat 8 box, currently running a patched 2.4.19
kernel to 2.6.0 (to avoid having to patch the kernel and to get a pre-emptive
kernel that will not freeze the system as spamassassin runs :-< )

I have to patch the 2.4.19 kernel as I am using Homechoice as my ISP and only
kernels after 2.4.21 support the USB dongle I've got out of the box - and why
upgrade to 2.4.22 when 2.6.0 is available?

Anyway, I can build and boot the 2.6 kernel without any problem, but I cannot
get it to sustain the ppp connection with homechoice - I get an LCP timeout.

Anyone here a pppd guru and able to point me in the right direction?
