[Gllug] windoze imap connectivity problem

I am trying to connect to an imap server on a mix XP / Mandrake network with
a 98 client. the client attempts connection but is tossed off it is not a
password or user problem I think it's an network logon encryption problem.
log file reads libwrap connection refused to ip addresss

anyone come across this?

incidentally although the client can see the imap server (also an samba
server it cannot) mount it like the other m$ clients as it doesn't present
the correct logon
