[Gllug] Modem woes

Yes... Thought it likely to be a winmodem, but didn't know if conexant
actually made real ones.

I've had trouble with one of those nasty winmodems myself this weekend.
Decided to finally try to get the one in my machine working. A little
searching on linmodems.org came up with the required pctel driver set and it
appeared to work fine, even under a heavy load.... 

Until the 2 hour freeserve cutoff occurred. It kernel paniced on
redial/reconnect almost every time.
