news.bbc.co.uk carried a report about cyber cafes in Baghdad.
The report stated that anyone is free to use them but that they are
considerably more expensive than the average joe can afford (albeit
cheaper than here in the UK).
I also got the impression from the report that the cafes are not subject
to govt. interference of censorship.
The problem for Iraqi net access surely has been that we (the UK and US)
have continued to bomb their communications facilities for the past 12
years which does kind of make maintaining international networks
difficult. Add to that the fact that there are various sanctions including
tech ones against Iraq and it becomes fairly amazing they have as much
connectivity as they do.
