What do you mean by "a text file"? gs is a PostScript interpreter,
and hence will get horribly confused if you try and feed it a plain
text file. Or do you mean you're trying to print a text file, and
the printing system is calling ghostscript as a filter?

Can you send the PostScript file that you used? Do you get the same
if you try viewing a simple PostScript file, such as:

	%!
	/Times-Roman findfont 72 scalefont setfont
	100 100 moveto (Hello, world!) show showpage
